🌍 France/US Graduate Student Mobility Grant
The Rice Sustainability Institute (SI) and Rice Global → are now accepting applications for a graduate student mobility grant that supports travel to France in preparation for sustainability-focused international research fellowships, including the prestigious Chateaubriand Fellowship.
🗓️ Application Timeline
- Applications open: April 15, 2025
- Funding decisions begin: May 9, 2025
- Consideration ends: June 15, 2025 or when funds are fully disbursed
- Travel deadlines:
- By September 30, 2025 for Chateaubriand applicants
- Or at least 3 months before the application deadline for other fellowships
📝 Application Requirements
- Graduate student name
- Rice faculty advisor
- Proposed French faculty mentor
- Proposed host French institution
- Proposed dates of travel
- 500-word research proposal (indicating sustainability relevance)
- Budget:
- Up to $3000 for travel to Paris (housing provided in Rice student apartments)
- Up to $3500 for travel to other regions of France (housing must be arranged independently)

- Note from French mentor confirming willingness to host
- Proposed itinerary
- Unofficial Rice and undergraduate transcripts
📌 Award Requirements
- Students must meet at least twice with the Program in Writing and Communication (PWC) to refine their fellowship application. These meetings must begin within 4 weeks of return from France.
- Students are expected to submit an external fellowship application. If not submitted and no delay is approved, reimbursement of funds will be required.
